Heavy Metal bands and fans dont just express themselves in music but also in the way they express themself. Bands use it through the art of albums and tshirts while fans show their passion through other images. The long hair is a sterotype of metal fans and in the 1980's the usual attire consisted of blue jeans., black tshirt, long hair, and boots. There are also bands that have created their own fashion that became famous with the band. This included the band judas Priest which used chains and leather, and KISS with their makeup.

Even though the Heavy Metal community spreads across the world they are a close knit community who love getting together to party and salute their favorite bands. Heavy metal is one of the longest lasting genres of music ever because of the fans passion and devotion. Fans line up hours before a concert to tailgate and hang with fellow metal lovers. History

There are many different beliefs to where the word "heavy metal" came from. The first belief is that it was first mentioned in a song by the band "Steppenwolf". The song was titled "Born to be wild" and the lyrics said.."heavy metal thunder". which ever way the actual word was created the history of heavy metal dates back to the mid 1960's. At the time the music consisted off softer pop such as "the beatles", or "the monkees" but hard core rockers wanted something harder and louder. Along came the first wave of bands that introduced the world to heavy metal. these included "cream", "led zeppelin", and who many consider to be the fathers of heavy metal "black sabbath". With leaders ozzy osbourne and jimmy page the world of heavy metal was set to take off and become a world of its own
